DCI

Interested in seeing a drum corp performance up close and personal? You still have time.

Drum Corp season is quickly coming to an exciting end, but you still have a few options to catch a show either live or in a theater. Visit www.dci.org for ticket information. There is a show in Gadsden, AL, on this Friday, July 24, 2009 and a show in Atlanta this Saturday, July 25, 2009. Ticket information can be found on the dci website.

Click the picture above to see the trailer for the Quarter-Final LIVE broadcast in theaters on August 6, 2009. The closest showing for us is in Trussville, AL.

Grab some friends and go see for yourself! You won't regret it.

Rock Band

Ever thought how cool it would be to start your own rock band? Jam Studio (click here) can give you the opportunity to experiment and do just that. It is a free online studio that helps you easily create tracks that you can play along with on any instrument. Beginning or Advanced it is entertaining to play around with.

Have Fun!

Facebook/ Dega Band

Since alot of you guys are stubborn and set on not getting on degaband... lol.... but I know that you all get on facebook... so I have set up a facebook account to discuss band matters and give links to degaband. It is simply a method of using degaband more often through facebook. The link to the website on facebook is http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=132553135369 you must then log in before posting comments as it is a group like other groups on myspace. It is simply a good way to keep up with degaband from your facebook. =D

Star Spangled Banner Video

Check out this video of Spirit Camp. This is Blake conducting his portion of the closing ceremony. Great job Blake!

A few pics from Spirit Camp....

On the final day of camp an audience of friends, family and instructors gathered to observe the skills of the Spirit Camp Participants. Drum Majors showed off

Their Conducting Skills.....

Their Marching Skills......
and the finalists conducted individually.
Congratulations Blake on your 2nd place finish!
(Blake won the privilege to conduct the Star Spangled Banner on the final performance!)

Thank you Blake for your great representation of the
Talladega High School Band.
We are proud of you!

Each year Universities throughout the United States offer opportunities for students to participate and learn in on campus learning programs. These programs are available in a variety of areas, including music. There are several options available right

here in Alabama. Typically each year our drum major participates in a leadership camp. In addition to Blake attending Spirit Camp, Brittany R. attended the Auburn University Marching Leadership Camp.

The focus of the Auburn University Marching Leadership Camp is on developing leadership skills, improving basic and advanced technique, and enhancing the overall impact of a marching band performance. The Marching Leadership Camp is staffed by the directors and student leaders of Auburn University Marching Band.

The program is open to high school Drum Majors, Section Leaders, Majorettes, Dancers, or Colorguard members who will be in the 9th through 12th grade in the upcoming school year.

We are very proud of Brittany for taking the step to branch out and learn more musically and leadership wise during the summer. Each camp attended by any member of the THS band only increases our abilities right here in Talladega. Brittany has a lot of information and experiences to share, so feel free to ask her.

Go ahead now and look ahead to next summer. Is there a camp you might be interested in? There are many offerings and by planning ahead you may be better in a position to attend. If you are interested and need suggestions ask Mr. McDaniel or Ms. Todd.

Congratulations BLAKE!

Each year the drum major of THS attends a drum major camp of his or her choice. Blake, drum major for the 2009-2010 season, chose to attend Spirit Camp hosted this year at Huntington College. (You may recognize this camp by its previous host schools; Jacksonville State University and University of Alabama at Birmingham.)

Spirit Camp provides a strong foundation for leaders, teaching them skills while they are in attendance and providing lessons and new ideas to take back to band leaders and members at home. This camp is set up to provide a better understanding of the overall leadership system; music pass offs, marching, teaching drill, fundamental discipline, uniform care, equipment care, stand protocol for Friday nights and hundreds of other details that many people don't even realize. All aspects are meant to give the students the best opportunity to succeed and become outstanding leaders as drum majors.

As part of the camp all in attendance participate in a finale performance on the last day. Drum Majors compete throughout the week for the top two spots. The first place winner conducts the Finale Piece and the 2nd place winner conducts the Star Spangled Banner. We are very proud of Blake for his outstanding performance at Spirit Camp and are very excited to announce that he finished 2nd place, winning the opportunity to conduct the Star Spangled Banner. Blake the THS band is very proud of YOU!

2009 THS Graduation

What a Gig!

On April 23, 2009, the Talladega High School Jazz Band was invited to perform for the International Motorsports Hall of Fame ceremonies. With great preparation, lots of anticipation and much excitement the group of young musicians took on this adventure with great enthusiasm. Much is to be said about the musical presentation and outstanding representation of the Talladega City Schools from this group of young people; it was truly outstanding.

A special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Smith for their help providing dinner for the group, as well as Mrs. Rasco. Also to Dr. Frank Buck for his attendance and support at this event. It is wonderful to have such great support from parents and administrators in the Talladega City School System.
